Welcome to Grave Offerings
We’ve been expecting you.
What foul abomination is this?
A monthly (or thereabouts) newsletter with updates on my comics, illustrations and writing. I’ll post about upcoming events, share my latest work, and occasionally write about the process side of things. More often than not, I’ll post illustrated essays about films/tv/pop culture I’ve been enjoying.
This substack started out as a daily illustrated horror film recommendation that I wrote and drew every day in October 2023.
Who do you think you are?
I’m Tom Humberstone. I’m a comic artist, writer and illustrator based in Edinburgh. I often make non-fiction comics for publications like The Nib, Washington Post, New Statesman, Buzzfeed, Vox and others.
My debut graphic novel, Suzanne: The Jazz Age Goddess of Tennis, was published by Avery Hill in 2022.
What will this cost me?
Your undying soul. But otherwise, this is completely free.
If you’re enjoying it and want to support me, you can pay to subscribe (£3.50 a month or £20 a year are the lowest amounts substack allow), buy something of mine or support me on ko-fi.
Now and again, I plan to make limited-run printed zines of some of my writing on here. If you’re an annual subscriber, I’ll send whatever I make to you free of charge.
But mainly, it’ll be a huge help if you tell your pals/share it on social media. The Ancient Ones (tech billionaires) are making it increasingly difficult for artists to get their work out there to the people who might like it, so any help with that would be amazing!
